Growth Mindset: Learning and understanding

 Growth Mindset

I have heard a friend talk about Carol Dweck before and growth mindset but I never looked into her or any of her talks. I enjoyed the Ted talk "The power of believing that you can improve". Carol Dweck mentions the word "yet" many times and I think it's excellent because since I was little I was told straight A's was the best and if I didn't get them I was very disappointed but I never challenged myself until I started college. College became a big challenge because I didn't understand many things like for example design but I challenged myself and learned it eventually and got great results in the end because I put the work into it.

In the Ted talk, I learned about a "Fixed" mindset and a "Growth" mindset. In secondary school, I can say I had a fixed mindset because I wasn't challenged and also I never put the effort into my work apart from art class. I felt like others were succeeding with their A's and I was getting C's. Since deciding to go back to education I can say my mindset changed and now it's a "Growth" mindset and after hearing this Ted talk by Carol Dweck I realised that once you embrace a challenge you will succeed. Yet is okay. And not getting that A yet is okay too because we are all growing and learning.

Quotes by Nelson Mandela

“Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”

“It always seems impossible until it's done.”

I will definately be interested in learning about the growth mindset this semester, not only will it be fun and challenging but I think It will make me less stressed.

My personal learning goal for this semester is to find out what I love doing and feel passionate about. I would like to receive a challenge and complete it without being stressed and overworking myself but at the same time challenge myself and complete my work with my best abilities.

I am excited about all classes, I know group work will be the hardest because you have to work with people and agree on things but it's a challenge and we love challenges. I am excited to learn more about website design, creating videos, learning about growth mindset, and completing extra bonus tasks.
