Game Decisions
After the readings I understand what flow state means. I learned that it is important to have a flow in your game because this will lead the player to enjoy your game so much that they loose focus on the time. Having a flow in your game makes the player more engaged. The player needs a challenge to understand what the game is so the games are designed to start easy and with minimum challenge so that when the player gets used to the game the challenges get harder and harder. The player has to be somewhat new to the game in order for them to be drawn which is why game designers have this chart to make the game not too easy and not too hard.

The goals you are given should be simple at the start because you have learning to do but then every level you pass they get harder and you start to understand the challenges more and get used to the game flow. In an article by (Wittmann Ph.D, 2021) , states that "flow states induce a loss of sense of self and time and can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety". If a player starts getting bored of the game this means that the flow is not challenging enough and they start loosing any interest in the game but if the player is having "fun" then they are in a level of where their skills are being challenged which results a successful game (Wittmann Ph.D, 2021).
I realised that when I am playing a game like e.g Mario Kart my mind doesn't think about anything but Mario Kart and this is due to all of the challenges and obstacles that I am faced with. I start forgetting about the time, where I am and even eating because my mind is 100% in the game. After reading those articles I know understand that designing a game has a lot more steps than just adding one element to another.
